Janine’s practice focuses primarily on the representation of Creditors’ Committees and secured and unsecured creditors in corporate reorganizations, restructurings and liquidations. As an integral team member in representations of the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of some of the nation’s largest subprime mortgage bankruptcies, including New Century TRS Holdings, Inc. and ResMAE Mortgage Corp, Janine has developed expertise both in financial products and complex debt structures. She has assisted in representation of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation as the Trustee in various SIPA proceedings. Her bankruptcy litigation experience spans from the defense and prosecution of avoidance actions to the briefing of complex plan appeal issues.
Selected representations:
- The Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Filene’s Basement, LLC and Syms, Corp., which own and operate 46 off-price retail stores throughout the eastern half of the U.S.
- The Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Loehmann’s Holdings, Inc., a leading national retailer that reorganized and emerged from Chapter 11 in less than three months, earning the Turnaround Atlas Award for Corporate Turnaround Deal of the Year in 2011.
- The Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of New Century TRS Holdings, Inc., one of the nation’s largest subprime mortgage bankruptcies.
- The Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Crabtree & Evelyn Ltd., the only retail company to reorganize and emerge from Chapter 11 in 2010.
Janine is a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association and serves as its VP of Programming. Janine is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and serves as a member of its Advisory Board for the 2012 Mid-Level Professional Development Program. While at law school, Janine served as the Business and Production Editor of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law and served on the Executive Board of the Moot Court Honor Society.
